Turkish jets launched air strikes inside Iraqi Kurdistan on Sunday after the bomb attack on the same day by Kurdish Militants in the capital city of Ankara. The district that was targeted was home to ministerial buildings and the Turkish parliament.
The Bomb blast was done by two attackers. They had arrived in a commercial vehicle around 9:30 a.m. in front of the entrance gate of the General Directorate of Security and carried out a bomb attack. It also caused injury to two police officers but injury was not that severe.

Why Turkey unleashed air strikes?
On Sunday morning around 9:30 am, there was a bomb blast near the parliament building in Ankara. This bomb blast has left one dead and injured two police officers. Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey and its Western allies claimed responsibility for the deadly bomb blast in the capital. After some hours Turkey unleashed air strikes on militant targets in northern Iraq. These air strikes destroyed 20 PKK targets including caves, bunkers, shelters, and warehouses in the regions of Metina, Hakurk, Kandil, and Gara.
What is PKK and why they have detonated bomb blast?
About thirty million Kurds live in the Middle East. Out of these thirty million fifth (20%) of the Kurdish population lives in Turkey. It waged an insurgency in Turkey in 1984 which killed more than 40000 people. The intention was to establish an independent Kurdish state.
According to Ankara, the PKK trains separatist fighters and launches attacks against Turkey from its bases in northern Iraq and Syria. There were only two people who were part of the bomb blast attack. One of the people blew himself up in the blast and the other one was neutralized or killed by authorities.
Turkey’s President reponse.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the blast was “the latest attempt” to inflict terror on the Turks. He also said“Those who threaten the peace and security of citizens have not achieved their goals and never will,”
According to Reuter, Turkey stepped up military action against the PKK in northern Iraq over the last few years in operations that are conducted under self-defense rights arising from Article 51 of the United Nations charter.

The Ankara prosecutor’s office said that it had opened an investigation and also banned access to the area. Local media were asked to stop broadcasting images from the scene of the attack too. Before this, there was also a bomb attack in Turkey which was in a shopping street in Istanbul in November 2022, where six were killed and 81 were injured.
