Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni announced separation from her 10-year-old relationship with television journalist Andrea Giambruno. This happened as a TV journalist faced criticism for his sexist comments. Two off-air videos posted by a different media set satirical current affairs. The videos showed him using foul language, touching his genital area, and appearing to make advances to a female colleague.
In the first clip the television journalist could be heard talking to a female co-host: Why didn’t I meet you before? he asks her. In a different clip, Andrea Giambruno was heard talking to the female colleague, saying that they needed another member on the show. “Let’s have a threesome, even a foursome, he said” while touching his genital area. With separation from his long-time partner, also led to the suspension of his television show.

Italy PM social media comments
Meloni took to social media on 20th October, Friday to announce the split from Andrea Giambruno who is also the father of their 7-year-old daughter. My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost 10 years, ends here,” Meloni wrote on X. “Our paths have diverged for some time, and the time has come to acknowledge it,” she added.
“I will defend what we were, I will defend our friendship, and I will defend, at all costs, a seven-year-old girl who loves her mother and loves her father, as I was unable to love mine. I have nothing else to say about this”, she added.
Meloni further shared that she would not be distracted by difficulties in her private life. She said that “all those who hoped to weaken me by striking me at home” would have no success, as per The New York Post.
Criticism faced by journalist was not for the first time
In August Andrea received a lot of backlash when he expressed his views about gang rape. He was seen blaming victim for the damage caused to her. He said
If you go dancing, you have every right to get drunk – there shouldn’t be any kind of misunderstanding and any kind of problem – but if you avoid getting drunk and losing your senses, you might also avoid running into certain problems and coming across a wolf,” he said during his program.
After this criticism Georgia defended her partner saying that they have misjudged his viewpoint. Meloni told media outlets a month later that she should not be judged over Giambruno’s remarks The couple met for the first time at a TV studio in 2014. The 42-year-old Giambruno is the presenter of a news programme aired by Mediaset.
