After the iconic win in the Opening match with Australia in ICC World Cup 2023, India continues with its outstanding performance and took the victory in the second match too by 8 wickets. This match was played against Afghanistan. One of the remarkable moments this time was skipper Rohit Sharma making a record-breaking century.
The match took place on Wednesday in Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Delhi. Several other events took place in the match which made the match memorable and groundbreaking. Let’s have a look at it.

Compared to the opening match of India which confused the minds of people due to 3 wickets picked in the starting overs only, this match was a bit relaxing. This time too India has to chase since Afghanistan decided to bat. India has to chase 273 runs for victory.
Indians bowler’s performance in the match was outstanding to restrict Afghanistan on 272/8 after 50 overs. Jasprit Bumrah clinched 4 wickets, Hardik Pandya 2, while Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur got one wicket each. Hasmatullah Shahidi’s dogged 80 and the young Azmatullah Omarazai’s gutsy 62 took Afghanistan to 272 for eight after opting to bat.
What happened during India’s batting was astounding. Rohit Sharma smashed 131 runs in 84 balls to record the most number of centuries in World Cup history. It is a new milestone that Rohit Sharma achieved when he scored his 7th century and overtook Sachin Tendulkar’s near-unbreakable record of 6 World Cup hundreds. Sharma only took 19 innings and three World Cups to reach the milestone.
Rohit also crossed 1,000 runs in World Cup matches and then reached his 50 off 30 balls. The 156-run partnership of Ishan Kishan who made 47 runs in 47 balls and Rohit Sharma was also great. Further Virat Kohli (55 not out) and Shreyas Iyer (25 not out) completed the iconic match in just 35 overs(90 balls left)
Everyone in the match has given an applaudable performance. Rohit Sharma has set a new record which makes the match more interesting. His record of seventh World Cup hundred off 63 balls helped India gun down the target in 35 overs, giving a big boost to their net run-rate ahead.
The Third ICC World Cup match of India will be against Pakistan and it will surely be an epic match. Every Indian will surely have their time booked on 14 october.
