Some highlights of Javelin throw.
Neeraj Chopra was asked to retake his first throw which to the naked eye appeared around 87-88m. After his first throw when everyone was waiting for the result some different discussion was going on between officials. The reason for all this chaos was the technical failure in the scoring system due to which the exact distance of Neeraj’s first throw was not measured.
The competition was put on hold for about 20 minutes before it was finally decided that Neeraj would have to retake his first throw. On his retake, the distance was registered at 82.38m.
Neeraj’s second throw distance was recorded at 84.49m while Kishore’s throw was considered foul. It happened when the official raised the red flag to disqualify his second attempt when it was clear that his front foot was nowhere near the white line. But after a series of replays, Kishore’s second throw distance was recorded at 79.76m.
Neeraj’s third attempt was red-flagged i.e. considered as foul. However, Kishore Jena throws 86.77m and overtakes Neeraj through his third throw.
The things took a wide turn during the fourth throw. This happens due to a mammoth throw of 88.88m from Neeraj Chopra which was his season-best throw yet. Kishore Jena also improved his throw and went to a distance of 87.54m which eventually made him win a silver medal

Controversy and complaints
Reacting on his victory, Neeraj said, as quoted by Times of India, “Things like this have happened with some of the other athletes as well here, which is not right. Even Jena’s second throw was wrongly called foul. But I thought no point debating it. Had to respect other athletes as well, as their bodies were getting cold because of the delay.”
“My first throw was good but they did not record it. I argued with the officials but it was not in my hands, I couldn’t do anything about it. I’m happy that I could win gold,” Neeraj said.
